The Carmichaelhouse is an 1897 Queen Anne Victorian home designed by the renown architectural firm of Bruce and Morgan. The house was built for J.R. Carmichael a carriage manufacturer who prospered In the Victorian gilded era. The house is a grand example of the Queen Anne style with over 8000 square foot of living space. The home had electricity 10 years before the city of Jackson. J.R. Carmichael and his wife Rosa Carmichael raised 11 children in the house. J.R. senior passed on in 1908 and his wife Rosa lived in the house until her death in 1953. J.R. Carmichael jr. and his wife Norma returned to Jackson in 1964 and restored the home to its original glory. After the death of J.R. Carmichael jr. The home was purchased by John and Linda Herdina who converted the home to a very successful Bed and Breakfast. The current owners David and Paulette Griffin, continued the restoration work and converted the home to a museum/special events event facility that has hosted many weddings and historic tours. The house is on The National Historic Register and retains many of the homes original furnishings and Carmichael family memorabilia. |
